Mt. Batur Jeep & Trekking

The summit sunrise with most of the climb taken out of it. A 4WD jeep carries you up through the forest to the middle of Mount Batur, and you walk the rest: about fifty minutes on foot in the dark, with a guide. You are on the rim for first light, with the crater on one side and Lake Batur below. A quarter of the walking of the full trek, and the same view at the end of it.

How the trip runs

1. 3:30 AMMeet the jeep in Kintamani. Safety briefing, and a headlamp each.
2. 4:00 AMUp through the forest by 4WD to the midway point.
3. 4:30 AMStart walking. About fifty minutes over volcanic sand and rock, and the only steep part of the day.
4. 5:20 AMReach the summit and warm up.
5. 6:00 AMSunrise over Lake Batur, with Mount Agung behind it.
6. 6:45 AMWalk the crater rim past the active steam, then back down to the jeep.
7. 8:00 AMBack at the meeting point.
